Have a look at our Literacy

In literacy this week we have been creating our own poems and learning what onomatopoeia means.
An onomatopoeia is a type of word that sounds like the thing it is describing.

Match the following sentences to the onomatopoeia that describes them.

A plate being dropped on the floor.
TINKLE
A balloon being burst.
BANG
A gun being shot.
SMASH
Someone eating crisps.
GROWL
A light being switched on.
POP
A fierce dog.
CRUNCH
A small bell being rung.

Here is a poem a very spooky poem written by Annalise

The sound collector

A stranger came to the grave yard today
Dressed all in black and grey
Put every sound into a bag
And carried it away.

The creaking of a gate
The blowing of the wind
The weeping of the families
The laughing of the ancestors.

Here is a game to remind you of what onomatopoeia means.
Have a go and enjoy!

Onomatopoeia   < Game

Once you have played it maybe you could write a poem for the blog!
We would really like to read them.

  3. The sound collector

    A stranger came this morning
Dressed in all black and white
He put every sound into a bag
    Then he carried them away

    The munching of the children
    The speaking of the children
    The ticking of the clock
    The creaking of the stairs
